Drafting Recipes, Raising Kinship – On KOKO (Kollaborative Konstruktion), an ephemeral social infrastructure in the Alpine village of Kirchham. By Andries de Lange & Isobel Mills for Arts of the Working Class Magazine
“Atelier 3: Led by Matylda Krzykowski and Felix Ganzer, the final atelier transformed KOKO into a vibrant space defined by blue hues, straw bales, and playful installations. Krzykowski and Ganzer encouraged a shift in the physical and social architecture of the space, turning KOKO into a meaningful hub together with local and international practitioners they invited to be co-hosts. The Gasthaus All All Welcome became more than just a place to gather, it became a living room for the village, a space for exchange, relaxation, and inclusivity. The transformation was immediate as straw bales were reimagined, not just as seating but as a radical playground for children, inviting them into the heart of the community with an open invitation to play. This whimsical spirit extended other activities: the meadow became alive with theatre, yoga, choir practices, and communal meals, all reinforcing the atelier’s ethos of collaboration and shared experience. Through these installations and activities, Krzykowski and Ganzer fostered a space where people could engage with both their own creativity and that of others, reinforcing the community bonds forged throughout the previous ateliers.”

Das Atelier 03 von Matylda Krzykowski & Felix Ganzer suchte die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Dorf und seinen Menschen. Wie reagierten diese darauf? Und was bedeutete die Präsenz der geladenen Künstler:innen, Designer:innen, Architekt:innen aus nah und fern in der Gemeinde?
“MK: Wir haben Voraussetzungen geschaffen, dass sich alle unterstützen, dass eine Gemeinschaft entsteht, aus Menschen von Nah und Fern, die zusammenkommen, miteinander arbeiten und ihre Lebens-und Arbeitsrealitäten teilen.
FG: Sie alle sind Teil des Projekts geworden, haben sich engagiert und Hilfe angeboten: von der Bereitstellung eines ganzen Hauses als Unterkunft für die Künstler:innen, von einem Kabel das vor Konzertbeginn fehlte und kurzer Hand gebracht wurde, von Werkzeug, Matratzen, einem Soundsystem und Kochgeschirr. Täglich kam jemand vorbei und brachte uns Gemüse aus dem eigenen Garten, Haus gebrannten Schnaps und Selbstgemachtes. Ohne die aktive Beteiligung der Menschen im Dorf und aus der Umgebung wäre KOKO in dieser Form nicht realisierbar gewesen.”
